SUBJECT: Operational Report of OPERATION DESERT ROCK

By Sunday 23 Sep 51, which was the end of the second week of operations, a definite routine had been established and all work received was routed through the newly established channels.

The carpenter shop was building underground storage vaults for storage of food and continuing on the prefabrication of work received during the first three days of operation.

Co "B" had received orders to build a perimeter road to be available for traffic no later than Friday morning. They were also working on the III Corps area and the erection of tents in the III Corps area.

Co "A" completed installation of all shower tanks, drainage for showers, to 66%, tentage to 66%, and plumbing to 50%.

During the week many miscellaneous jobs were received and disposed of as follows:

  • Two men were designated as permanent refrigerator car maintenance workers.

  • The survey crew completed surveying of the air strip and the entire camp area.

  • Numerous electrical jobs were received and the 359th Engineer Utilities Detachment was assigned the job of all electrical installation orders which were to be received. Among these were orders to install wiring in the General's area, wire all administration tents in the III Corps area, and install the 5KW generators and the necessary wiring in the carpenter shop to allow night operation.
